Female customer requested nitrolingual spray for another male patient"s angina. The patient is taking escitalopram, coversyl (perindopril) and fish oil. Counsel the customer on how to use the spray. Nitrolingual spray consists of mononitrate which is a voasodilator. When applied this drug can dilate the blood capillaries and increase oxygen flow into the heart. Customer also asks whether the male patient can take the spray together with sildenafil. Actually sildenafil is a vasodilator as well so you can"t really combine the spray with sildenafil. Phosphodiesterase inhibitor with the spray is not contraindicated; just remember to warn the patient not to ever take sildenafil together with the spray at the same time. ]warn the patient about possible interaction and tell him to see the doctor to confirm that doctor is aware about this. The spray is to be absorbed under the tongue so ask the patient not to swallow it.
