If not, you can access the electronic version via the utas library. --ewing, callow, & rushton (2016) phonemic awareness (pp. -- reading is the ability to decode, make meaning from and use a range of texts, including multimodal texts, with purpose and critical awareness (fellowes & oakley, 2014, p. 185). --a "text" is any object that can be read: symbols that signify and communicate meaning (book, images, street sign, map, advertising, clothing style, illustrative style, film, architecture, museum space, garden arrangement). When you make meaning from anything, you are reading the signs and symbols associated with that thing. --children begin to read by making meaning from symbols around them from the moment they are born. --graphology & phonology (patterns of letters and sounds)
