Workplace is indeterminate = issue of agency (changing decisions) Conflict is inevitable (due to different interests between employer/ees) Notion of theory = provides us a framework. Belief systems = lenses through which people look at er. Unitarist: dreamers (everyone on same page unions as trouble makers) Radicalist: marxism state/government looking after employers. Pluralist: realists, power understand as all parties should have. The plurality of institutions that make up the state (they operate independently of the government) Authorities e. g. fairwork commission (modern awards, ombudsman) federal court, administrative tribunals. Government is part of the state (in control of the parliament) Fairwork commission is apart of the state. Unitarism = say that role of state should be minimal. Pluarlists = say that state should be minimal (has a legitimate role just as the other two parties)
