PSYC 2002 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Sampling Distribution, Null Hypothesis, Standard Score
Document Summary
These events occur at the far ends of the tail: you need to have sample data that you have collected and you are going to compare to the hypothesis, make a decision. Look at the data and decide if you reject the null or fail to reject the null. Fail to reject, means there is no effect. Alpha levels: most of the time we use them at . 05, but we can make it more difficult to reject the null hypothesis. Test the hypothesis that extra handling of infants leads to faster growth so that by the age of 2 years children who have received extra handling will weigh more than those children who do not receive extra handling. Step 2: what criterion will constitute enough of a sample difference to warrant rejection of h0, the treatment sample could be larger or smaller than the no treatment.
