Biogenic: formed form (or caused by) biology. Psychogenic: originating from mind: term mental disorder unfortunately implies distinction b/w mental disorders . Can often be physical component to mental disorders, & there can often be mental component to physical disorders. Symptomology: study of, or treatment of, symptoms of disease. Diathesis-stress model: diathesis: some predisposition increasing risk/susceptibility for developing disorder. Stressors can be biological (physical illness), psychological (relationship stress, or mourning loss of loved one), or social (cultural pressure to meet certain standards) Focuses on: brain structure, neurochemical communication, genetic heritability. Focus on interaction b/w organic functioning (genetics, physiological & neurological systems) & behaviour (normal & abnormal)
