PSYC 3604 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Cognitive Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Active Listening
Document Summary
Jacobson = depression was set up to be a hedonic imbalance (too many negatives and too few positives and as a consequence you can"t help but feel depressed). This study looks whether or not we can just target those behaviors or we should also use cognitive therapy. They assign the treatment for clients with major depressive disorder assign them on bat, drugs, or ct. Bat= what happens when a negative event happens and how that could perpetuate avoidance behavior. The avoidance in the end will reduce other kinds of behaviors (so you have a fight, avoid your so, this will also reduce the positive interactions with your so, and will lead to further allieanation and depressive feelings). Creates self-perpetuating cycle of negative events: figure out this cycle, and how they cope with that. In the treatment you want to create a focus activation, essentially an alternative script for how they respond to the same trigger.
