Mcdonaldization: the process by which the principles of the fast-food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of society around the world; a paradigm created around the mcdonalds model. Paradigm: a fundamental picture of the society that has been more or less accepted by sociologists and/or the broader society; represents the dominant mode of thought of a particular period of time. Understanding mcdonaldization begins by understanding the process of rationalization. Tasks are then broken down into smaller, simpler tasks. The goal to find the most efficient way of completing each task (like, fool-proofing) The end result is a step-by-step process can be completed the same way every time to produce a desired outcome. How well each stage is performed or how good the final product is can be quantified & measured.
