Lecture: functionalism the sick role: you are not held responsible and you are allowed to be exempt from normal activities. But the third and fourth are the responsibilities of the sick role. If you are sick, you are expected to take the meds to get better: co(cid:374) i(cid:272)t theorists are really interested in the multiple relationships between sickness, health and social class. Because, most class has a large impact on different aspects of life, class has the biggest impact on health reasons: there are social determinants of health. A(cid:374)d (cid:272)o(cid:374) i(cid:272)t theo(cid:396)ists also look at ho(cid:449) the a(cid:272)(cid:272)ess to health care, even if its publicly funded, its conducted by class: class positions for doctors are higher than a lot other jobs. 13000 a year, dental school was 18000 a year. What this barrier to access to med school is that we have largely kids that come from middle or higher class.
