Meister eckhart said similar things in german: mystical exegesis. In his sermons, eckhart invited his audience to reinterpret scripture in light of divine human union. He says we all must become virgins in order to become wives. To be a virgin is to be purified of all images of god. Detachment from all ideas about god and worldly concerns was essential. Spiritual virginity was not the end of this mystical journey. "bearing" god with you in every aspect of life. Detached from images, the soul prepares itself to receive god"s actual being: virgin to mother. Eckhart advises an inner transformation of the mind. The wifely soul must focus on its own now. Even in daily life, even at work, the soul can be one with god.
