But depression varies in degree as well as comorbidities, severity and longevity/intensity. The study looked exclusively at those with severe clinical depression,compared placebo and st johns wort in double blind study. But this was with high depression group placebos and herbal things tend to work for mild depression, with st johns wort works slightly better. Random assignment: important to having a true experiment. Open arms: people can choose which group they want to be in. The choice of control will impact interpretation of results for etc. drug (no side effects means you aren"t getting the drug) better than placebo. One should compare new treatment to empirically validated treatment. Adherence: is the person actually putting effort into taking the treatment or drug.
