Primary apparaisal: how much harm or threat am i facing. Values and needs, highly individualized (ex for some religions divorce means excommunication, an extra stressor) Needs for achievement or performance (the type a), as well as need for affiliation. Eustress is good stress: the person, during appraisal, finds the pressure (such as creative or productive pressure) to be positive or helpful. Physical stressors such as illness or pain -major life changes: whether positive or negative (ex moving away for school ) Negative or ambiguous event (ex natural disaster) -ambiguity: not knowing whats coming next. Uncontrollable or unpredictable events (ex low job security, getting into top choice school, childhood/adolescent development) Stress is cumulative in its effect: the accumulation of daily hassles and lack of daily uplifts.
