Nearly 50% of people: difficulty going to sleep, staying asleep or wake early, caused by stress, drug dependence, pain, depression. Sleep apnea: second most common, repeatedly stops breathing during night. Associated with people who are overweight or snore a lot (commonly) Larynx clamps off, person stops breathing and eventually wake up gasping for air: possible to have hundreds of attacks per night, can lead to cardiac arrest, ways to treat it. Increases risk for heart attack, cardiac arrest and other heart troubles. Take stimulants, drink coffee, etc. to help with it: fairly rare. Not as common as the other two sleep disorders. Night terrors: stages 3 or 4, common in children, child screams in panic; goes back to sleep immediately and does not remember the event in the morning, resolves by adolescence, not sure why they happen. Hypnosis altered state of consciousness with heightened suggestibility, deep relaxation, and intense focus on certain aspects.
