Once an infection develops, it can be diagnosed by the clinical manifestation and supportive laboratory investigation:- Clinical manifestation: patients with overt surgical infection may present with the following symptoms and signs: Symptoms and signs of local inflammation such as hotness, redness, edema/swelling, local pain and loss of function. Staining and culture of discharges and fluids can be diagnostic. Blood culture: especially if there is bacterermia will be positive. Biopsy: histologic inspection of tissues can also be diagnostic of infection of various structures.
