Darwin had no desire to work for anthropology or had any anthropologic dreams but has very many important points that relate to anthropology, his work is very important to anthropology. Durkheim believe that what holds stateless societies together. Religion & kinship system, both cultural universals shared & collectively enacted in ritual (example: birthday cake & gift opening on birthday) These 2 are necessary because of solidarity and division of labor. Religio(cid:374) is (cid:862)so(cid:272)ial glue(cid:863), e(cid:374)sures group (cid:272)ohesio(cid:374), order & solidarity, enforces moral obligations, reduces anxiety by providing explanations of the situations beyond human control. Mechanism: people who perform similar tasks share consciousness and values. Organic: as people begin to perform different tasks= division of labor (this how we become dependent), socialization= individuality, solidarity based on interdependency.
