Generalization 1: words that are similar in sound are associatively in our mind ex. Can, could continue as canned, candour, candy, etc. Using eye tracking to study how we retrieve spoken words from memory. G3: words that are close in meaning to sounds associates are associatively linked e. g winter and hockey are close to meaning to canada. Can a words make a certain pattern more accessible? e. g of a word priming study by bargh et al. (1996) Method: subjects were asked to form grammatical sentences using four of five words, record the amount of time each participant took to walk down the corridor after exiting the lab room. sub, did a memory test. Results: they walk more slowly, they do less well on a memory test. Conclusion: exposing individuals to a series of words affect our behaviours. Choices can be subliminally altered/affected through words and visuals (called priming).
