CIS 3210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 38: Multiprotocol Label Switching, Virtual Circuit, Glossary Of Ancient Roman Religion
Document Summary
Concept borrowed from switches and used in ip routing. Initial goal: high-speed ip forwarding using xed length label (instead of ip address) Fast lookup using xed length identi er (rather than shortest pre x matching) Borrowing ideas from virtual circuit (vc) approach. But ip datagram still keeps ip address. Traditional routing uses the same path because those routing protocols deemed that route to be the best. Mpls can have a de ned path, any path you choose. Advantage: don"t need a huge forwarding table, the label de nes where to go. Attacker responds before the true target and now the victim is speaking to the attacker instead of the intended computer. Attackers may exploit multiple vulnerabilities to compromise computer systems and networks. Con dentiality - only sender, intended receiver should understand message contents. Authentication - sender, receiver want to con rm identity of each other.
