A man sold out the greeks for some money, told them of a second entrance. 300 spartans (700 thespians and 400 thebans: the town of thespis, the was the entire town to die in place with them. So 1400 stayed behind to fight as the rest of the greeks escaped. Spartans the beautiful death the men were ready and prepared to die. They were braiding their hair, preparing for death and glory: writing their names on pieces of wood and putting them on their body parts so they could be identified. Well groomed, fed, prayed to their gods and then the spartans run out and attack the persians. Leonidas was at the front of the army and were one of the first to die: he may have done this to inspire his men and show what the spartan warriors stand for.
