It"s not a single home all the compartments of the one large compound. "house" keep them separate and not as a family. The mormon leaders keep jane out of the capital sphere. Hegemony gets it power through naturalizing certain ordered relationships. Religion becomes a way to gain artificial power/authority at least the mormon religion. Jane is a "spoil of faith" to tull, that is his justification for annexing her into his possessions. Religion perverts women"s power of consent by making them marry for gain and not for love. Takes the romance out of the consent between two people. People didn"t like marriage out of duty and obligation to the father/tradition. This proved that the woman was american (being the opposite of this thus makes mormons un-american)
