Newborn"s lose weight in the irst three days and then gain about 30 grams a day for several months (double in 4 months, triple in one year) Norm: an average or standard measurement, calculated from the measurements of many individuals within a speciic group or populaion. Newborns tend to sleep 15-17 hours a day but in segments so they tend to not be asleep for the whole night. As they begin to mature their hours of sleep begin to decrease: 6-17 months is about 13 hours of sleep. Since infants have experience with their mother"s voices they tend to prefer female voices and their speciic mother"s voice over other women. Infants prefer familiar, rhythmic sounds, such as a mother"s heartbeat or their voice: it is very soothing for them. Eye gazing towards sounds- where they are looking. Vision is the least mature sense at birth. Infants are legally blind, they focus only on things 10-75cm away.
