PHIL 1010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Justice As Fairness, John Locke, Invisible Hand
Document Summary
Coming most directly of mill is liberty and unobstructed liberty. Rawls tried to balance the two opposing principles of liberty and equality. Theory of justice is homerun that became incredibly influential. Right after publication of theory of justice came anarchy, state and utopia. Direct rebuttal of theory of justice-complete rejection of the idea of any type of redistribution. Anarchy which is associated with something that nozick calls the minimal state. Direct rejection of rawls, primarily of the difference principle which is that differences in economic equality should only be tolerated to the extent that they are in the interest of the least well off. Very great wealth of the doctors benefits the poorest people in the society since they can use their services. Anarchy means in this context no limits on the extent to which there can be economic inequality. Nozick claims the argument is utopia-no limit on the wealth one can accumulate.
