Alienation: the transformation of people"s own labour into a power which rules them. When your work is so small or seemingly inconsequential you feel alienated from your work. A factory job where you make a tiny piece of a larger machine (your piece may not even be visible in the final product) Labour is an essential part of being human according to marx, therefore it is important to feel connected to your product. People are being alienated from their very own society. Alienates man from himself, from his own active function, his life activity; so it alienates him from the species i. ii. iii. For labour, life activity, productive life, now appear to man only as means for the satisfaction of a need, the need to maintain physical existence. In the type of life activity resides the whole character of a species, its species-character; and free, conscious activity is the species-character of human beings.
