Document Summary

Psyc 1000 week 2 module 2. 1, 2. 2, 3. 1. Common sense is not enough to predict human behavior: scientific method is often necessary. This is the belief that psychology is purely common sense. If we study scientifically we can compare with intuitive physics. We need to recognize that common sense cannot teach all we need to know simply by observing the movement of objects. Intuition says : we are attracted to distinctive faces, and that we are consistently attracted to the same people. Science says : we are more often attracted to average faces, we are inconsistent based on hormonal state. Why is there an under representation of women in engineering, science and mathematics: summers claimed because they have less innate ability within these fields. That women are socialized and discriminated against to defer them from these fields. The evidence: boys are not superior to girls on average, however, among the elites, boys are superior this has been changing through history.
