V = associative strength between cs and us. = maximum associative strength (0-1, for example) you cannot go over max. V = change in associative strength on each conditioning trial (delta signifies change in learning) each change leads toward deltav1, deltav2, deltav3 etc. the size of each delta decreases. More learning occurs at the beginning at the conditioning trials, this is when they are most surprised by the us, they are not expecting it unlike several trials later. = strength of the association at the beginning of trial n n. = change is the strength of the association produced by trial n n. Learning curves can differ in terms of: v max (strength, rate of acquisition (gradual or steep) V is determined by the magnitude of the us max. And relate to the salience of the cs and the us, respectively. This model precludes quantitative predictions but allows interesting qualitative predictions (increases, decreases, and more).
