Document Summary
Obtaining something or getting away from something. A set of responses of organism, usually in relation to environmental stimuli (goals) Instinctual behaviour (instincts: reflexes, genetically programmed behaviours that occurs when circumstances are appropriate, requires no learning, set by genes, dna. Learned behaviour: developing complex interpretations of behaviours and understanding of where they are applied, relatively flexible, open to interpretation. Instincts are influenced by natural selection o: can be overridden by experience and by each other many instincts are in conflict with one another. Instincts are motivators of behaviour impulses coming from within the organism that lead to initiation of behaviour: made a complex list of instincts and those in conflict with each other, o which one would win, etc. Biological kondrad lorenz & niko tinbergen: ethology o. Instincts are behaviours they exist becasuse they have/had survival value: controlled by genes, they are not learned, differ in terms of degree of sensitivity to changes in the environment.
