Psychic energy: source of energy in everyone that fuels moivaion, insincts (provide energy) Pre-conscious: not currently thinking about but can retrieve from memory. Unconscious: not currently thinking about and cannot be easily retrieved. Ego: primiive and dominant in infancy, drives all urges, operates on the pleasure principle, operates on the primary process principle. Isn"t rooted in reality, reason for dreams: operates on wish fulillment. Provides saisfacion for an urge even in thoughts: constrains id within reality, develops around 2-3 years of age, operates on reality principle. Understands you cannot do everything: secondary process thinking. Tries to strategize to get what is wanted. Super ego: internalize values, morals (around 5, the conscious, not necessarily reality-based. In regards to an actual threat: neuroic anxiety. Ego-super ego conlict: here the funcion of the ego is to minimize anxiety and cope with threats via defence mechanisms. Repression: prevening unacceptable thoughts, feelings, urges from reaching conscious awareness.
