Extinction of aversive learning might require cb1 receptor activation. Systemic cannabinoids disrupt memory in various tasks (mwm, ram, delayed non-matching to position, object recognition memory) Morris water maze: delayed matching to position protocol. Start at different locations (allocentric strategies and distal spatial cues hippocampus dependent cognitive map) 4 trials per day, location of hidden platform is the same on each day. Difference in latency between trial 1 and 2 is short, short-term spatial memory. Latency to escape on trial 2 is shorter than in trial 1. Systemic injections of vehicle and cannabinoids (thc) at different dosages. Significant reduction at 1mg in performance, latency increased. Impairment not related to physiological functioning or motivational deficits. Impairment on the high dose of thc compared to vehicle. Higher doses of the antagonist and thc reverses the cognitive impairment caused by thc. Cannabinoids also decreases hpc synaptic transmission and ltp. Agonising cb1 receptors leads to a failure to produce ltp.
