Parables and storytelling emphasize masculine exploits (ford 2003; van hulst 2013) Officers who have more stories that emphasize masculine exploits have more social status (cid:449)ithi(cid:374) the orga(cid:374)izatio(cid:374); u(cid:271)(cid:272)ultural (cid:862)(cid:272)urre(cid:374)(cid:272)(cid:455)(cid:863) Reassert their authority legally or otherwise if not shown deference. Must demonstrate being in control of a situation. Authoritarianism is accepted: exposure to danger (cid:862)worki(cid:374)g perso(cid:374)alit(cid:455)(cid:863) (cid:894) kol(cid:374)i(cid:272)k, (cid:1005)9(cid:1010)(cid:1010)(cid:895) in order to keep danger at bay and maintain control, safety of officers and citizens, they must have an authoritarian personality. Usually a larger problem for young officers who are on the street; less likely for senior officers who no longer need to keep up that part of their personality. Very safe profession, but when something goes wrong, it goes really wrong.
