ACB 406.3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Purkinje Fibers, Collagen, Purkinje Cell
Document Summary
Transport: oxygen and nutrients to tissues, co2, fluids and waste away from tissue. Blood circulatory system: heart, arterial system, venous system. Lymph circulatory system: lymph vessels w/ many valves, lymph hearts (in lower vertebrates: first seen in lungfish (associated w/ move to land, bony fish are the first ones to have lymphatics. Arteries, arterioles, veins and venules have 3 layers that vary in composition and thickness: tunica intima = endothelium and connective tissue. Innermost layer: fibroblast within the underlying ct, tunica media = variable amount of smooth muscle and elastic tissue (elastin and fibrillin, middle layer, tunica adventitia = mostly connective tissue; outermost layer. In large vessels this layer contains nerves and smaller blood vessels (for oxygen and nutrients, and waste: may contain fibroblasts, macrophages, vasa vasorum, nervi vasorum (myelinated and non-myelinated) *capillaries, small lymphatics and sinusoids have only tunica intima. Endothelium = thin layer of cells (spindle-shaped and aligned w/ direction of blood flow)
