Deaths from natural disasters are not random does not meant hat rich countries don"t have natural disasters. Whatever exists (poo houses, little food), makes it worse. Areas that suffer hurricanes, typhoons, in most cases are annual events. Asian tsunami (2004) - 32 asian countries - one of the most deaths caused by a natural disaster. Hurricane katrina - one of the most damaging natural disasters. Especially hard on the disadvantaged ppl, poor lived in most susceptible area lowest land, most don"t have house insurance. Over half the ppl that live in new orleans don"t have their own vehicle (can"t get away from disaster) Even in the richest country in the world, still see natural disasters. Causes the greatest damage to public infrastructure. Haiti descended into crisis before the quake to get a handle on gangs etc. Social and technical elements to the earthquake. Similar situations, but had to do with difference in infrastructure and health care etc.
