Any research that does not require the researcher to intrude in the research context . Exp. tiles in front of museum displays to measure wear and then determine which exhibits are most popular. Research subjects do not know they are part of a research study. But often, publicly available data is used so consent isn"t necessarily needed. If not produced for the purpose of social research they are unobtrusive measures. Typical of what it is supposed to represent. Is it representative of the group (or most of those people) Can we interpret anything from the document. Anne frank diary can be used to understand the experience of the jews during ww2. Did the author actually write the piece. Do the documents accurately re ect people of different classes and genders. Was it a unique situation or generalizable as a common experience to multiple people.
