Gave contracts to several building companies, required to build different housing styles. Transformed over time to different styles as owners didn"t like original types. Path system - parallel system, path for pedestrians, roads for cars. Mall built in 1950"s, meant to be the downtown/community centre of don mills. Proposed creating a downtown area, demolished mall. Created streets with shops at street level, a couple of squares with sculptures, some offices on upper floors, high end stores and restaurants, large parking garage, attracts a lot of people to shop. Area originally meant to be mini downtown of neighbourhood is now a retail area with large catchment area. Emphasis on aesthetics, borrow models from europe (renaissance city, monumental architecture) Influence of beaux arts architecture (highly ornamented buildings)
