Document Summary
Operant conditioning- particular response increase or decrease depending on their consequences (voluntary actions; do things to get something good or bad) Classical conditioning- conditioned reflex results in association of neutral stimulus with us (acquisition of automatic reflexes) First to study operant conditioning by placing cats in a puzzle box. Ex: place cat in puzzle box -> motivate cat to get out of the box for fish food. Law of effect- (cid:271)eha(cid:448)iors that lead to (cid:862)satisf(cid:455)i(cid:374)g(cid:863) results are (cid:862)sta(cid:373)ped(cid:863) i(cid:374) (cid:449)hereas those that lead to (cid:862)u(cid:374)satisf(cid:455)i(cid:374)g results(cid:863) are (cid:862)sta(cid:373)ped out(cid:863) Behaviorists hate it -> referring/alluding to mental mind. Radical behaviorism- reje(cid:272)ted use of (cid:862)satisf(cid:455)i(cid:374)g(cid:863) or (cid:862)u(cid:374)satisf(cid:455)i(cid:374)g(cid:863) as e(cid:454)pla(cid:374)atio(cid:374)s for (cid:271)eha(cid:448)iors. Reject mental events, and only looked at behavior response directly. Tend not to use humans because humans talk about feelings and thoughts -> extreme form of empiricism to control aspect of environment/subject.
