Document Summary
Pavlov studied digesion using dogs as a model species for his experiments; he collected saliva and other gastric secreions from the dogs when they were presented with meat powder. Pavlov noiced that as they prepared dogs for procedures, even before any meat powder was presented, the dogs would start salivaing. Pavlov thought that the salivary response to food can be learned and is not totally just the anicipaion of food. He irst presented the sounds from a metronome which produces sound at set intervals and then presented it with meat powder for the dogs and ater pairing it for a long ime, it could elicit salivaion. This is now known as classical condiioning (pavlovian condiioning) which is learning that occurs when a neutral simulus elicits a response that was originally caused by another simulus (tone represents the simulus) This study contributed to the foundaions of behaviourism which is focused on observable behaviours.
