Causes of organizational conflict: group identification & intergroup bias, people develop positive view of own group and less positive group of others. Not all conflicts are detrimental but, relationship & process conflict tend to be detrimental to member satisfaction and team performance. Relationship conflict concerns interpersonal tensions among individuals that have to do with their relationship and not the task at hand: ex. Task conflict concerns disagreement about the nature of work to be done: differences of opinion about goals or technical matters. Process conflict involves disagreements about how work should be organized and accomplished: disagreements about responsibility, authority, resource allocation & who does what. Function of how assertive and how cooperative you are with satisfying your own and others concerns. Increasing resources to work together to increase overall resources. Introducing superordinate goals attractive outcomes that can be achieved only by collaboration.
