The word oikos refers to the household rather than just the house/building/dwelling but everything associated with it including the land, tombs, slaves, animals and family. Child was not named in the 1st 7 days, the father had the ability to reject the child. They got to pick and choose their children because they placed importance on sons to be male heirs. The polis: citizens, had full legal and political and social rights, free men born to citizen parents, legal rights were only given to women, children associated with free men aka the wife of citizen male. It would not give her any political rights: legal rights extended to non-citizen metics (resident aliens living in athens. Non- citizens who had skills to offer, permanent residents) many were citizens of another polis: non-citizens: slaves had to rights under the law at all. These were slaves that were privatley owned: the economy, mother seated on chair, slave girl holding child.
