Document Summary

1. 1: delio & antonio debate whether stewart monarchy will come down, set up like satirical drama: flat dramatic presentation, focuses on motif of satiric attack (almost all comedy in play is tragic satire) Line 23: "here comes bosola,/ the only court-gall; yet i observe his railing/ is not for simple love of piety: man is satyr, malcontent satirist who is envious of those who criticizes. Lustful, bitter, cynical: uses lexicon of church & conventional morality but his behaviour is immoral, satyr has history of bad behaviour & speaks on malicious envy. Feeling that he ought to be better than he is: unrealized potential. Bosola whose motives are self-defensive: dies as knight of faith. Line 37: "why not/ i, in these dog-days?: world is crappy place where dirty people thrive, meant to explain way bosola"s choices & dishonesty. In doing so he becomes less than human, sacrifices his humanity.
