Document Summary

Formalism the belief of film as and art of photography, it not a reflection of reality, it is manipulated and changed until it becomes art, and that is what makes it artful. Formalist theorists shapes the raw material of reality and shapes it into something and that act of making something is what makes it art. Sergei eisenstein: a work of art, understood dynamically, is just this process of arranging images in the feelings and mind of the spectator. You are not just showing reality as it is, you are arranging images in such a way that they produce a specific feeling and thoughts to the spectator. If you arrange things in a particular way and particular rhythms, and you make people think the way you want them to think. These theorists already mark from an early time of using tools and changing things and creating, and not letting this just be as they are.
