Meibomian : secretes sebum to inner lid; single row of 20-30 run perpendicular to lid. Gland of zeis : secretes sebum to outer lid; located around middle of eyelash follicle. Gland of moll : sweat gland ; located at base of eyelash follicle. Etiology and signs & symptoms of eyelid disorders. Chronic inflammatory process affecting primary the eyelid margins. General symptoms: bilateral redness, burning, irritation, crusting. Cochrane: eyelid margin may provide symptom relief (both anterior & posterior) Avoid touching eyes as much as possible. Clean towels (1 for each eye + hand towel) Patients with chronic disease will continue maintenance indefinitely. Warm compresses: apply to closed eyelids for 5-10 minutes. Gently clean lid margin q-tip or face towel with warm water (+/- baby shampoo) or a commercial product. Affects the outside front edge of eyelid, base of eyelashes.
