Document Summary

Psyc101 - lecture #8 - assessing genetic and environmental influences. Single egg, single sperm, share same dna. Studies how much identical genes twins have, compares dz with mz. Ie blood type mz-100% concordance, dz- 66% concordance. Higher concordance between twins suggest that genetics plays a high role than environment. Conversely- lower percent concordance indicates that environment plays a significant part in that trait. Raised in a family other than their own. Ie take a child whose biological parents are prone to anxiety and depression, give to adopted parents who are not prone to anxiety and depression. Examine the results, shows effects of environment. H2- was in the population over time, but it changes, only works if the environment is exactly the same. Thought iq was genetic, bred smart and dull rats. Other scientist attempted to replicate using the same bright and dull rats. Found there was no difference in the rats. Replication- enriched environment with other rats, toys etc.
