Expected that the effects of forming a new cross-group friendship would persist in daily life: the development of a cross group friendship would lead to more ignition of intergroup interactions during the diary period. Participants higher in rs-race would report more anxious mood over the diary period but that this anxiety would be attenuated through the development of cross group friendships. Recruited on campus for money and were told it was about friendships but not about the racial/ethnic components. Partner assignment: randomly assigned by same sex, however told them it was bc of similar personalities. Attrition: 11 people did not participate. Final sample: 64 latinos, 80 white, mean age of 19. 5, 26 latino and 26 white assigned to the cross group condition. Experimenters: were uninformed of the specific hypotheses of the study. Began within 2 weeks of the information session.
