PSYC 217 Lecture 1: Week 11 Lecture Notes - 1
Document Summary
Fun day assignment due monday nov. 21. Research report due nov. 28 in class. Final exam: december 19th friday, 12pm woodward 1 & 2. **no need to calculate from scratch what a t-statistic is or any inferential statistics - instead, can you apply the correct statistic to certain situations. Last week: population level, probabilistic trend, random sample. Small samples subject to more error in estimating population value. Even with random assignment, problem still remains. Random assignment works best with large sample sizes; chance plays major role in statistical analysis and research methods. Random selection: everyone has the same probability of being selected for a study. Random assignment: people who are in your study, are likely to be assigned to any random given situation. Precursor for next class: when an effect does not exist in the population, but we conclude that there is an effect -> type 1 error.
