Person present an abnormal sensory or motor function symptom. But no clear medical explanation tho seems to involve neurological functioning in some way. Sensory disturbance (ie. double vision, tunnel vision) Hallmark feature is symptom not consistent w/ neurophysiology. Ie) tremor that goes away when person is distracted. Ie) hoover"s sign = pattern of movement in opposite limb in paralysis. Ie) lying down on bed and trying to lift l leg, while r leg automatically pushes down. Ie) glove anesthesia = numbness, tingling of just the hand. Diagnosis should be based on overall symptom picture, not just one nding. (+) evidence that symptoms are not consistent w/ neurological / medical condition. Not better explained by another dx (disorder) Diagnosis makes no claim about how real the symptom is.
