Document Summary
Theories of social development: psychoanalytic theories (e. g. freud, erikson, learning theories. Social learning theories (e. g. bandura: social cognition theories (e. g. dodge, dweck, ecological and evolutionary theories. Behaviorist learning theories: emphasize the role of external factors in shaping personality and social behavior. Associations (classical conditioning) how external punishments/rewards change behavior: little albert studies. Exposed little albert to a white rat; originally had no fear. Overtime, pairing white rate with loud aversive sound. Pairing meant that albert started linking white rat and loud sound -> he became afraid, negative feelings/association. Behaviorist learning theories: mechanisms of change: whether/how frequently we exhibit a behavior is based on past outcomes i. e. positive outcome increases behavior, neg. decreases it. It"s much harder to extinguish a behavior that"s intermittently reinforced. Children wants candy bar in line at the grocery store; if parents consistently say no, whining will. If parents give in sometimes disappear much more quickly than if they give in.
