Sanctioned inequality: unequal distribution of social and economic resources. Closed systems systems in which there is no movement of social ranking slavery, caste system. Intra mobility : social class changes within ones lifetime. Inter mobility: changes in social class between or among several generations. Based on socioeconomic status wealth, assets derived from reality, savings, investments, net worth (subtraction of debt) Revenue derived from employment, distribution of income. Lichen scale: low income cut off compared to average based on three basic necessities (food, clothing, shelter) Canada"s poor: not randomly distributed, age, sex, risk of poverty , single moms. Homelessness: not permanent, most are working poor. Functionalists don"t see anything wrong with strati cation as long as there is consensus. Meritocracy : people being in power because of the general idea that they are able. When there is no consensus, the system is out of whack.
