Based on socioeconomic status wealth, assets derived from reality, savings, investments, net worth (subtraction of debt) Revenue derived from employment, distribution of income. Lichen scale: low income cut off compared to average based on three basic necessities (food, clothing, shelter) Canada"s poor: not randomly distributed, age, sex, risk of poverty , single moms. Homelessness: not permanent, most are working poor. Functionalists don"t see anything wrong with strati cation as long as there is consensus. Meritocracy : people being in power because of the general idea that they are able. When there is no consensus, the system is out of whack.
