English has a lot of dialects (canadian, british, indian/pakistani) Newfoundland english is made fun of for being lower. In the past the non-rhotic r had a higher status. The non-rhotic r lost status after the civil war. Simple language, not considered a full blown language, small vocabulary, they draw from other languages. It is used between people who speak different languages. Used by people who don"t speak the same language but it"s a full blown language. Made up of old french, italian, and a heavy borrowing from turkish and arabic ex. koine greek (everyday speaking greek), aramaic, indonesian (a standard language created by the state) A mix of bantu languages, heavy influence from arabic but also english and french. Kenya uses swahili but they have their government and education in english. Not spoken in uganda, they don"t like it because swahili is associated with slave trade. In the us: english and african american vernacular.
