BIO153H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Dorsal Nerve Cord, Appendicular Skeleton, Axial Skeleton
Document Summary
Be able to identify: the four diagnostic features of chordata, the major components of the vertebrate skeleton, the major internal organs of the rat, be able to identify the different specimens on display. Required taxonomy: you will be required to know (and correctly spell) the taxonomy of the following organisms (domain, kingdom, unranked clade, phylum, subphylum, class and genus) for lab test 2. In part i of this lab, you will have specimens to examine as in previous labs; however, in part ii, you will be working in pairs to dissect a rat. There is a lot of material to cover in this lab, so be sure to complete all readings and manage your time efficiently. Possible phylogeny of kingdom animalia, with taxa covered in this week"s lab highlighted. By comparing structures and functions among groups of organisms, we can understand the evolutionary history that creates patterns of diversity, and the adaptations that the array of diversity represents.
