Document Summary

Nerves: groups of axons from neurons organized in fascicles and surrounded by layers of connective tissue (endoneurium, perineurium, and epineurium) and also contain blood vessels. Single neuron is surrounded by an endoneurium that is surrounded by a perineurium, and many fascicles are surrounded by the epineurium (from interior to exterior, endoneurium perineurium epineurium) Nerves provide connections within the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and between central and peripheral nervous system (nerves outside of the central nervous system) Afferent branches/neurons: internal and external stimuli to brain and spinal cord (afferent arrives) Efferent branches/neurons: information from central nervous system to body; motor/muscles and autonomic divisions/nervous system (efferent exits) The graph depicts the relationship between the body mass (in kg) and brain mass (in g) of different animals. Mammals show the largest brain and body mass, whereas bony fishes exhibit the lowest ones. Mammals also display the largest range in their body mass size.
