Document Summary

Major advance in the evolution of the nervous system came with: simple elements becoming more and more complex. Complex organisms have more neurons than simpler organisms. A neural circuit mediating the cockroach startle response. Sensory carries information from outside nervous system to the inside. Sensory neurons convey signals about environmental stimuli to the cns. These signals are integrated by cns neurons and can trigger or modulate output signals of motor neurons to control effectors such as contracting muscle cells. Ganglia - central nervous system that integrates what information is coming to it. After the decision making, the decision is carried out to a function, the motor neuron output information. More complex nervous system shows centralization (i. e. central and peripheral nervous system) Also see groupings of interconnected neuronal cells into ganglia. In many species, ganglia grouped together at the anterior end form an integrating center (the brain)
