Document Summary
Multitude: a set of singularities based on practices of self-determination and the common. Communication: is the production of meaning through the exchange of information. Communication technologies and the messages we exchange through them are never politically neutral with respect to power. Social movements are rooted in injustices, unequal power. Socially constructed, coercive/control and influence, mutually exclusive, to have power means someone is disempowered. Counter power is ability of the decoder to decode appositionally, sender has all power. Hypodermic needle: ideology in a syringe, directly injected into brain. Negotiated/oppositional readings: active roles on both ends. Initiation vs. use: the moment of design (sender). Transformative capacity: your actions can lead to change that you can see and feel. Two means of power: torture of body-can be violence, tank, fist, etc, shaping of the mind-most effective. The exercise of power relationships has been transformed by development in communication technologies.
