Computational social science, the data we get nowadays is being produced that is generated faster than data before and for this we need new tools to gather it. Measurement: cheaper to analyze tweets to get a collective public opinion. Ethical: much of css is owned by private entities which may make it unethical to use such data. Data collected for making a profit for big companies rather than for research purposes. Has a much longer history than social science. Symbolic interactionism: the creation of meaning though social interaction. The relationships between interacting social units matter. Actor or a node in a network, can be an individual, social media user, a family or a blog, company or organization. They are coherent social entities existing in the social world.
